SELECT COMMITTEES

An aerospace company wanted to keep an eye on relevant issues at Westminster in the defence, trade and industry and transport areas, and to re-establish its credentials and credibility following a take-over. A baseline monitoring programme was put in place which, after a few months, revealed an opportunity for the company to participate in a detailed inquiry into the UK aerospace industry being held by the all party Trade and Industry Select Committee.

Written evidence was submitted, oral evidence was invited, and the new chairman of the company was briefed on the practicalities. He made a good impression on the Committee, demonstrating his expertise and experience in the aerospace industry, and the company received favourable mentions in the subsequent Committee report, together with substantial press coverage at every stage of the process. Several important political contacts were made.
